Taking notes from LA Preist, Soft Hair, John Maus and Lala Lala, the first Single ‘Love myself’ dives deep into Gia Como’s personal battles with mental health in the past few years. The song is a journey into Gia Como’s realisation that suppressing issues surrounding grief and losing people only makes things worse in the long run, especially when it’s set to a backdrop of exploring ones gender. These lyrics are contrasted by an instrumental that could be played in 80’s/90’s club or a cheesy 80’s action movie, with a soaring guitar solo from local musician Samuel Atkin (Body Heat, Shit Narnia, Con Art, Dumbleachers).
‘Love Myself’ is a taste of an album that is heavily emotional, but in a dancing whilst crying kinda away. With themes surrounding Gender, Death and mental health taking place in a corny 80’s club that’s as much glam as it is dirt, Love Myself is only a snippet of what’s to come with the full album ‘FLUX’ due out in November.
